simple photography at the happiest place on earth

Week #26
of our 2011 Project 52*
(*give or take a week here and there for vacations)
This month's theme is...simple!

Every few years or so we feel the need to visit the happiest place on earth.  I had our trusty Canon Digital Rebel Xsi handy to capture highlights of our trip.  I took about 100 or so pictures that are now saved onto our external drive waiting to be styled into a photo book.  But that's a project for a later date.

I also had my smart phone with me the whole time and took random shots along the way. You know...waiting in line at the drive-thru at In-n-out, waiting in line at the park escalators, waiting in line at the tram....you get the picture...

Of course, quality wise nothing beats the DSLR.  However, I will argue that ease of use is a prime factor in settling for the smart phone.  I took the picture and edited (added effects) right there and then.  No need to upload onto our desktop, start Photoshop, and edit away.  It took me no more than a minute or so to shoot and edit a shot.  Lovely.  Perfect for when you are in hurry, or just tired from all the walking and waiting in line...

This a new wave of doing things...
I call it simple photography...
Hassle-free...

The excitement building as we parked and go down the escalators...

The kids cooling off at a "misting" station at Disney's California Adventure...
The heat was brutal...

We were lucky to be near this attraction right when it opened.  There was no line.

We found ourselves drenched to the bone after the ride.
Cooled us enough for the rest of the day...

Taken while on the train...totally random, but shows the emotion of the day...relaxed, laid back....

Taken as we were walking around the park to figure out which FastPass ticket to take before we lined up for another ride...Worked for us...

During past trips, when the kids were smaller, we never lasted more than a couple of hours at Disneyland.  This time around we stayed a total of 12 hours between the California Adventure and Disneyland parks.  We stayed until after the fireworks show and people-watched. By then the weather cooled down, and it was nice to just walk around, or find a spot to just take it all in and enjoy a frozen banana dipped in chocolate.

The kiddos were wiped out at the end of it, and the Hunk and I were in pain, but the smiles and the excitement in their eyes as they got on their selected rides made it all worth it.

It was, the happiest place on earth, after all.
