cheese and shrimp appetizers

Last week, I wrote about these deep fried appetizers that we served during our youngest child's birthday celebration.  There's something about deep fried appetizers that reminded you folks about your own childhood.  I've received many a comment about friends having these babies back in the day.  I know that sometimes cheese and deep frying  are frowned upon.  But hey, you only live once.  And, live it up, we will.

Without further ado...

Recipe #1:
Deep fried shrimp in won ton wrappers

Ingredients:

1 Nasoya Won Ton Wrappers Prepacked
1 lb shrimp 31-40 count (de-veined and shelled)
salt, pepper, paprika
water for sealing wrapper
vegetable oil for deep frying (amount would depend on depth of frying pan).

Add a pinch of salt, pepper and paprika to shrimp.
Place 1 shrimp horizontally across a single won ton wrapper.
Roll wrapper and shrimp stopping about 1/2 inch from edge.
Dab water along 1/4 inch of wrapper to seal (inner side).
Heat oil and place a single layer of the wrapped shrimp in hot oil.
Remove wrapped shrimp when golden brown.  Place on plate lined with paper towel.
Serve with honey mustard or sweet chili sauce (recipe below).

Recipe #2:
Deep fried cheese sticks

Ingredients:

1 Nasoya Won Ton Wrappers Prepacked

1 8 oz block Lucerne Colby Jack natural cheese
water for sealing wrapper

vegetable oil for deep frying (amount would depend on depth of frying pan).

Slice cheese about 1/4 inch less than the length of the won ton wrappers (1/4 inch x 1/4 inch x 2 1/2 inches).
Place 1 cheese stick diagonally across the edge of a single won ton wrapper.
Roll cheese and wrapper until the middle part of the wrapper.
Fold in sides and then continue to roll.  See picture above; you should have a flap closure.
Dab water along inner flap of wrapper to seal.
Heat oil and place a single layer of the wrapped cheese sticks in hot oil.
Remove wrapped cheese stick when golden brown.  Place on plate lined with paper towel.
Serve with honey mustard or sweet chili sauce (recipe below).
