an early spring harvest

Week  #11

of our 2011 Project 52*
(*give or take a week here and there for vacations)

For 2011, our photography projects will be based on a monthly theme.  This month's theme is what else? Spring!

Late last year, we started a small container vegetable garden.  We placed seeds in several 5 gallon containers, watered it on a regular basis, and basically let mother nature take control.  Most of the seeds that we planted during the fall/winter season have not thrived.  Either we planted off-season or birds of prey got to the seedlings before we could.

Of all the failures, our carrot plants survived the coldest frost-ridden days and nights.   Each time I took a peek - the carrots were thriving.

So, this past weekend we welcomed our first harvest of the season.  The lush green toppers were a good indicator of the goodies that were sub-terra, and we were happy to find a nice healthy organic bunch.

Roger rabbit, Bugs bunny, et al would be proud.

Nothing like veggies grown in organic soil without the use of fertilizer.  Yummy.
Please pass the Newman's Own organic ranch dressing.

Just enough to feed a small army of kids.

Looking forward to a bountiful spring and summer harvest.
